Spencer Matthews has opened up about how difficult it was being separated from his wife Vogue Williams whilst she participated in I’m A Celebrity.

Vogue joined the jungle last month as a late arrival alongside Tom Read Wilson, taking on Ant and Dec’s gruelling bushtucker trials with fellow campmates including Martin Kemp, Lisa Riley, Shona McGarty and eventual winner Angry Ginge.

She became the third celebrity voted out of the camp, but her husband wasn’t there to greet her as she made her exit across the bridge.

A source had previously told The Daily Mail that Spencer wouldn’t be travelling to Australia to meet Vogue as he pressed on with his challenge to complete seven full Ironman triathlons across seven continents in 21 days.

They said: “The timing isn’t ideal at all, but sometimes these things happen, and Vogue and Spencer’s diaries just clash,” reports the Irish Mirror.

“Of course, Spencer would want nothing more than to support Vogue in Australia and be there waiting for her when she leaves the jungle but both committed to their own projects, and unfortunately, the schedules overlap.”

They continued: “They’ll both be missing their children, who will stay in London, continue attending school, and no doubt support their parents from afar – catching Vogue on TV whenever they can.”

Following the completion of his gruelling challenge, Spencer made an appearance on This Morning today (Tuesday 9 December) with presenters Ben Shephard and Alison Hammond, where he received his Guinness World Record.

In addition to discussing the harsh experience he underwent, Spencer also talked about reuniting with his wife, the mother of his three children.

Referring to her as his “Queen”, he expressed: “She’s the best, I’m so proud of her.”

When questioned about how he felt being unable to communicate with her, Spencer responded: “I hated every second of it. Honestly, we talk a lot, we’re always in touch. I’m so proud of her, that challenge she did, it was incredible.

“I’m picking her up from the airport today, I can’t wait, honestly. It’s hard to describe how much I miss her, I’m desperate to see her.”

After Vogue’s departure from the jungle, Spencer posted a touching tribute to his wife on social media.

He penned: “Disappointed to hear that my gorgeous Vogue is out of I’m A Celeb but I’m so proud of the brave stint she did in there.

“She showed heart, courage and fearlessness in challenges and, as always, was such a positive and pragmatic figure in camp!

“I would have loved nothing more than to have been there for her when she came out and am sending so much love from Antarctica.

“On the positive side, we can now all FaceTime – I know she will have missed the kids like mad and I can’t wait to hear her voice and for us to all be reunited next week.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
