Black Panther 3 finally has a release window at Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline is currently focused on completing Phase 6, but work is already underway on projects outside The Multiverse Saga.
In an interview with the NY Times, Coogler spoke about his future and Black Panther 3, which the outlet revealed was expected to be released in 2028. When asked if he was contemplating his career after the Marvel sequel, the filmmaker said the following:
“To be honest with you, yes. The image I get is a green meadow with Bay Area fog on it, and it’s dawn. That’s what I see after that movie, because it feels like open land, open opportunity.”
Coogler added that “I’m so fired up about that movie, bro.” With Black Panther 3 slated for sometime in 2028, it officially means that the third installment will be making its arrival after the completion of The Multiverse Saga.
As revealed exclusively to ScreenRant, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, a.k.a. the MCU’s new Black Panther, will be back for Avengers: Secret Wars. When speaking to Liam Crowley, she said she had “no clue” about Black Panther 3.
The Black Panther 3 story is still under wraps, but one detail that has been revealed is that Denzel Washington is getting a role in the third installment. It’s still unknown who he would be playing, but his addition makes it one of the biggest castings for Marvel Studios ever.
While it remains to be seen what is happening with Black Panther 3 in terms of Washington’s involvement, filming would likely begin in 2026 or 2027. But it also depends on where the project lands in the 2028 release schedule.
As Avengers: Secret Wars will reset the MCU, Phase 7 is bound to look very different, as the superhero universe will face changes caused by the Phase 6 finale. The X-Men reboot is also one of the major projects in the works at Marvel Studios and will likely be joining Black Panther 3 in Phase 7.
