A non-fatal emergency landing occurred in Carrigeen, Co. Kilkenny, on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 10.

The plane was registered as EI-DDX, with the flight route titled AFZ10R. 

As a courtesy, rescue 117 crew brought the pilot and passenger back to Waterford Airport in their helicopter. 

Information from an online flight tracker shows the plane took flight around 9:24 am before going offline above Clonmel at 12:26 pm.

The plane was a Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP, a four-seat, single-engine aircraft.

In a statement to the Waterford News & Star, Atlantic Flight Training Academy said: “A Cessna 172 was routing back on a routine training flight towards Waterford when the pilot experienced a rough-running engine.

“He informed Air Traffic Control in Waterford and advised that he had identified a suitable landing site in close proximity. The pilot positioned the aircraft for landing and carried out a precautionary landing in a suitable grass field, in accordance with standard operation procedures, north of Waterford Airport. There were no injuries to either the instructor or the student.”
