The eagerly awaited second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has arrived on Disney Plus today (December 10).

Launching a fresh heroic quest into unexplored territory, the opening two episodes of the new series have dropped on the streaming service, though viewers will need to exercise patience as the remaining instalments aren’t available immediately. Fresh episodes will debut weekly every Wednesday.

Drawing from the second novel in Rick Riordan’s bestselling saga, The Sea Monsters, Disney Plus has teased “thrilling new monsters” alongside “higher stakes than ever” as the young demigods make their comeback in an effort to rescue Camp Half Blood and their companion Grover, reports the Express.

Disney reveals: “After Camp Half-Blood’s protective border is breached, Percy Jackson embarks on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters in search of his best friend Grover and the one thing that may save the camp – the legendary Golden Fleece.

“With help from Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson, Percy’s survival becomes essential to stopping Luke, the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood – and ultimately, Olympus.”

With Walker Scobell reprising his role as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth, Aryan Simhadri as Grover and Charlie Bushnell as Luke, viewers can also look forward to notable guest appearances from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman and Timothy Simons.

The cast also features recognisable faces including Virginia Kull, Courtney B. Vance, Andra Day, Adam Copeland, Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, Kristen Schaal, Tamara Smart, Rosemarie DeWitt, Toby Stephens, and others.

An official trailer released earlier this year teased more thrilling adventures ahead. In the gripping footage, Percy Jackson can be heard asking: “You guys get nightmares, right?”.

“I usually get ones that tell me the future…. or try to kill me.”

Fans wasted no time expressing their excitement, with one viewer posting: “GOOSEBUMPS”, whilst another commented: ” Looks Epic! They gotta get the other series filmed asap, though. Percy is nearly a fully grown adult.”

A third enthused: ” WE ARE SO READY! !” whilst a fourth gushed: ” Fantastic trailer! The sets and special effects look really great!”.

“We see several Olympian gods, in addition to Hermes and Dinosius, Ares and Poseidon will also be there! I can’t wait to see this new season!”.

However, as the second season arrives, we’ve examined what lies ahead for the Percy Jackson universe.

Will there be a season 3?

Indeed, Disney Plus has announced a third series ahead of season 2’s premiere.

The streaming service revealed that season 3 is currently being filmed in Vancouver, stating: ” In the meantime, fans can relive the excitement of the first season, now streaming on Disney+.”

Season 3 will probably stick to the book order and adapt material from the third instalment in the bestselling series, The Titan’s Curse.

The Titan’s Curse sees Percy embark on a mission to save Annabeth and goddess Artemis while confronting an approaching war and a menacing creature.

A book synopsis teases: “It’s not everyday you find yourself in combat with a half-lion, half-human. But when you’re the son of a Greek god, it happens.”

No official release date has been confirmed for season 3 yet, though the fact it’s currently in production suggests fans may have some time to wait. Speculation hints at a potential December launch next year.
