It just had to be with Celtic and Evan Ferguson.

Back in the summer, and in the build-up to Celtic’s Europa League clash against AS Roma on Thursday night, talk had restarted about Ferguson possibly joining the Hoops.

There has been the suggestion that Roma could cancel Ferguson’s loan during the January transfer window and send him back to his parent club, Brighton and Hove Albion.

But then, Ferguson decided to rock up to Celtic Park, amid his struggles in the league for Roma, and score two goals against the champions of Scotland to help his side to a 3-0 win.

Would you take Evan Ferguson at Celtic in January?

Ferguson played just over an hour and caused Celtic all sorts of problems, including his fellow countryman, Liam Scales.

It was an evening to forget for Scales because, after putting the ball into his own net for Roma’s opening goal, he got completely outdone for Ferguson’s second of the night.

After the ball was fired at the Republic of Ireland striker’s feet, he took a brilliant first touch away from the Celtic defender and fired the ball past Kasper Schmeichel in emphatic fashion.

The Celtic supporters noted that, with some suggesting that it’s the Hoops that made him look better than he already is.

You now wonder what will happen to Ferguson in January, because Celtic might have just provided him with a helping hand here.

@MrCrowleyoto was sarcastic with his response: ‘Special shoutout to Scales as well for another goal and his ability to totally stand off Ferguson and let him do what he wants to do. Great bit of camaraderie for his international teammates’ confidence.’

@_RH88_ thinks Ferguson has taught Maeda how to play the centre-forward role: ‘As expected. Ferguson is absolutely bullying Celtic and teaching Maeda a lesson in how to play that role.’
