After two successful seasons of The Night Agent, one of its most beloved stars won’t be returning for season 3. The action-packed Netflix series follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who is defending the country while protecting the former CEO of a cybersecurity company, Rose Larkin.
In an interview with Deadline, Luciane Buchanan, who portrays Rose, revealed that she will not be coming back for the highly anticipated third season. She explained that while she is sad to go, she understands why her character is being written out, and she is still very excited about The Night Agent’s future. Buchanan also stated that this might not be the last time viewers see Rose.
As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career — being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind — the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever.
Buchanan said that The Night Agent’s producers, Marney Hochman and Shawn Ryan, told her that there is a chance that they may bring Rose back. She elaborated, “If there is an opportunity that makes sense to the story for her to come back, I’m sure they’ll explore that, because they really loved the dynamics of Peter and Rose.”
Ryan also made a statement to Deadline about how he was sad about Buchanan’s departure: “I adore Luciane as a person and as a performer and I don’t believe that this means we’re done telling the story of Peter and Rose.” He continued, “I hope circumstances ultimately allow for the return of Rose to our Night Agent universe.”
What Rose’s Exit Means For The Night Agent
Rose was an integral part of the first two seasons of The Night Agent, so her departure would definitely shake up the show’s premise. Her safety was one of Peter’s top priorities, and, now that she’s gone, he will inevitably have to move on to his next mission. Hopefully, his new adventure will be just as exciting as his time with Rose.
Our Take On Rose’s Exit From The Night Agent
While I’m sad about Rose’s departure, I am very excited to see where The Night Agent will go from here. Oftentimes, popular characters in TV series overstay their welcome, so Buchanan’s exit may be a blessing in disguise, despite her strong performance and powerful character development.
Whoever The Night Agent brings in for season 3 has very big shoes to fill and a massive audience to please. Only time will tell if the show’s new protagonist will live up to expectations. But I have enough faith in the producers and the writers to trust them with the plot of the upcoming season.
