Eight manufacturers have been affected
A warning has been issued
Households across parts of Ireland have been issued with an “urgent” safety alert covering a range of tumble dryers.
The alert concerns specific tumble dryer models, particularly those featuring an integrated heat pump. The warning advises consumers to stop using the machines immediately, turn them off and disconnect them from the mains until repairs can be carried out.
Affected manufacturers include Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Lamona, Iberna and Montpellier. Users are advised to verify their model and serial numbers online to determine if their machine is included and to contact the manufacturer to schedule a repair.

The announcement reveals that the manufacturer launched a remedial action programme earlier this year covering 103,000 affected units.
Haier has suspended its original repair scheme due to worries that the modifications remained hazardous.
After developing an improved modification, tumble dryer manufacturer Haier has restarted its programme and begun reaching out to consumers once more.
Haier initially prioritised arranging second repairs for machines that had undergone previous modifications, and is now organising repairs for the remaining 85,000 owners whose appliances continue to pose a fire hazard. If you discover that your machine is one of the affected models, it’s crucial to stop using the appliance immediately.
An internal short circuit can occur during regular use, leading to the tumble dryer catching fire.
Tumble dryers can also pose a significant fire risk if you neglect to remove the lint between loads, as accumulated dust can easily ignite.
The notice affects over 85,000 tumble dryers. If your appliance is among those listed, you must get in touch with the manufacturer to organise a repair.
It’s essential to check if your tumble dryer is affected and contact the manufacturer if it is. Even if you’ve bought the appliance second-hand or received it as a gift, you’re still entitled to a free modification. You’ll need to verify if your model number is affected.
