A judge has hit out at low monetary thresholds which mean “minor” cases are ending up in the Circuit Court and the High Court, where the legal costs involved are often a multiple of the value of the claim.
High Court judge Michael Twomey made the comments in a case where a woman who lost a €16,500 personal injury claim following a road traffic collision is now faced with legal costs of €50,000 or more.
