The GAA president Jarlath Burns has confirmed that he was approached to run for Áras an Uachtaráin for the recent Irish Presidential election but declined.

Addressing the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communication, Culture and Sport yesterday as part of an integration delegation discussing progress towards the planned merger of the three Gaelic games organisations in 2027, Burns was asked by one of the committee members, Wicklow/Wexford TD Brian Brennan, if there had been an approach to be a candidate.
