One family is €15,000 better off tonight after winning RTÉ’s Ireland’s Fittest Family 2025.

The final two families on the reality show – the Carrs from Co Westmeath and the McKennas from Co Monaghan – went down to the wire for the grand final race after an eight-week competition.

The showdown took place in a new location this year, the Tower and Treetop Walk at Avondale in Co Wicklow.

But in the end the dizzying heights failed to deter the sport-loving McKennas. The family were the victors after a thrilling moment where they powered their way to the top of a ramp first.

Cailin McKenna (17) who’s active in boxing and GAA, said: “Winning the title of Ireland’s Fittest Family 2025 feels amazing and we had an amazing experience throughout the journey of filming the show…We’re the only family ever to have taken part and won every single event and avoided all eliminators. We’re so proud to have accomplished such a special win as a family. It was a pity that Daddy and my sister, Cadhla, were unable to be on the team as well.”

The teenager paid tribute to the family’s coach Andrew Trimble, saying they “couldn’t have picked a better coach.” “Like ourselves, he had a laidback approach and we shared laughs and life experiences throughout the series,” she added.

The McKennas are a sporty family, with mother Sharon leading an extremely active life, working to inspire her four children. Ms McKenna competes in Hyrox, and cycling. While her children Cormac, Caolan and Cailin, share a passion for GAA and clay pigeon shooting. Cormac and Caolan are electricians while Cailin is studying construction and the built environment at Southern Regional College.

Mr Trimble said: “When you have a family like the McKennas, who are amazing athletes and high performers, it’s my job to make sure they’re focused. They got through the competition unscathed and that was a huge relief. I was delighted to see them getting what they deserve because I think they were the best team in it. They were amazing from minute one.”

The Linehans from Co Cork and the McDonaghs from Co Mayo, also went head-to-head in the final episode but the Carrs and McKennas finished the season out in an impressive contest of fitness and willpower. Viewers can catch up on this season on RTÉ Player.
