Peacemaker Season 2 has been airing for a month now, and throughout that period, the show has been the most popular series on HBO Max. It’s easy to see why the John Cena-led superhero drama has taken over the platform, given its wide acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, Peacemaker is rated fresh at 96%, a tough feat for many shows. However, HBO just unveiled another drama series from Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby, and Peacemaker’s dominance has been threatened. Task, as the show is called, is the most popular show on the platform, with just a single episode having been released. It might not be as highly rated as Peacemaker, but 88% on Rotten Tomatoes is not a bad score. It remains to be seen whether Task will hold strong and permanently dethrone Peacemaker.

Peacemaker is created and written by James Gunn, and after a successful first season, the second follows the titular character on a new quest. “In Season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands,” reads the season’s official logline. Returning cast members include Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick, as well as new cast members Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows.

What Is ‘Task’ About?

“Set in the working class suburbs of Philadelphia, an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man (Tom Pelphrey), reads the official series logline for Task. Other cast members include Emilia Jones (Maeve), Jamie McShane (Perry), Sam Keeley (Jayson), Thuso Mbedu (Aleah Clinton), Fabien Frankel (Anthony Grasso), Alison Oliver (Lizzie Stover), Raúl Castillo (Cliff), Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton (Kathleen).

A new episode of Task airs on Sunday, September 14. “As he prepares for an emotional court appearance, Tom (Ruffalo) buries himself in the case, while Emily questions her obligations to the family. Later, Maeve makes a critical choice to protect her own family, while Robbie (Pelphery) works to find a way to turn his newfound surplus into cash,” reads the logline for Task Season 1, Episode 2, “Family Statements.”

The eight-episode second season of Peacemaker streams on Fridays, while the seven-episode season of Task airs on HBO on Sundays before streaming the following day on Max. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
