After months of speculation, Zoe Slater’s stalker has finally been revealed – and it’s an iconic villain, who is still vengeful two decades after the characters last met. In their Christmas Eve episode, EastEnders unmasked Zoe’s tormentor as Chrissie Watts.

Near the end of the episode, viewers watched as Zoe’s (Michelle Ryan) secret daughter, Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness), walked towards a car.

The footage was spliced together with flashbacks of Jasmine scrawling a threatening message to Zoe on a door to the Vic. As she entered the car, Jasmine told a hidden figure that while she had done what she asked, she no longer wanted any part in the scheme to hurt her mother, arguing that Zoe doesn’t deserve what’s happening to her.

Then, the hidden figure revealed herself – Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman), who last saw Zoe after they were both involved in the murder of Den Watts (Leslie Grantham), menacingly told Jasmine that Zoe deserves everything she is getting.

When Chrissie and Zoe last saw each other in 2005, Chrissie was being imprisoned for the murder of her husband, Den Watts. After discovering his affair with Zoe, Chrissie was determined to exact revenge and convinced both Zoe and Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) to help her drive a wedge between her husband and his beloved daughter, Sharon (Letitia Wright). When Den discovered what they had planned, he attacked Chrissie, and Zoe hit him over the head to stop him.

Den collapsed, and Zoe was convinced that she had killed him. While Sam ran off, Chrissie finished the job, witnessed by Sam. Eventually, Chrissie was revealed as the real killer and was imprisoned for nearly 19 years before being paroled in 2024. Meanwhile, Zoe, who had still played a part in the murder, was able to continue living her life.

When Zoe returned to EastEnders in September, she soon started to receive several threatening messages and has accused half the Square of being her stalker. Fans have had their own theories, with many wondering if it was Sharon, still angry about her father’s death.

However, some fans claimed they always knew it was Chrissie. One said: “I thought from day one Zoe’s stalker was who it was. Then I suspected Sam. But after her illness, I thought nah. I always had that mad b**** top of the pile. I can’t wait till tomorrows episode now.”

Another said: “Zoe’s stalker been revealed knew it was her all along! Can’t wait till tomorrow episodes.” But others were utterly surprised by the reveal, with one saying: “Wow! EastEnders was amazing today!! This Christmas episode is gonna be real good! I was genuinely shocked!”

Not everyone was pleased, as they felt Chrissie was one of the show’s most evil villains. “Why have they brought literal Satan back into EastEnders?” asked one fan.

EastEnders continues their Christmas storylines with two episodes on Christmas Day. But unlike all the episodes, this week, there will no early release on iPlayer and viewers will have to tune in to BBC One at 7:45pm and 9:45pm respectively.
