With Celtic coming under fire from their fans for their lack of action in the transfer market this summer, they will be relying on the likes of Daizen Maeda more than ever.
The deadline day departure of Ireland international Adam Idah angered Celtic fans, with no attacking replacement brought in for the Corkonian.

Idah’s departure may well open up more chances for the likes of Johnny Kenny, but Celtic will undoubtedly be relying on the experience of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and co. even more so this year.
However, while on international duty with Japan, Maeda has revealed that Celtic blocked him from leaving the club earlier in the summer.

Daizen Maeda delivers Celtic transfer revelation
Quoted while on international duty, Celtic’s Japanese star Daizen Maeda revealed that he had asked the club to leave on multiple occasions before the transfer window shut.
“I had received an offer and was telling Celtic that I wanted to take the next step,” Maeda said.
They weren’t able to make any good reinforcements, so in the end, they told me I couldn’t leave.
There were some things that I had agreed to personally, so I wanted to take on the challenge.
I’d been talking to the club since before the end of last season, and I’d always told them I wanted to take the next step, but we had important games, so it was difficult.
Maeda’s line about Celtic’s reasoning for blocking his exit raises some intriguing questions about Adam Idah’s exit.
If Daizen Maeda was blocked from leaving Celtic due to a lack of “good reinforcements,” then why was the Ireland international allowed to leave Parkhead?
The decision to let Idah go has evidently infuriated a big portion of the Celtic fanbase, but it has become even more perplexing with the recent revelation from Adam Idah.
Regardless of the reasoning, Maeda is tied down to Celtic until January at least, while Idah has secured a move to Championship side Swansea City.
Had things gone a little differently, their situations may well have been reversed.
