It’s bad news for the many homes and businesses on Cork city’s Northside without water as Uisce Éireann say outages will continue until 1pm tomorrow.
Supply issues began yesterday after a major mains burst disrupted supplies at a large number of properties in the wider Mayfield area, including at – but not limited to – Corrib Lawn, Ballinderry Park, Shannon Lawn, Lagan Grove, Liffey Park, Glencree Crescent, Gweedore Avenue, and Boyne Crescent.
Repairs were originally expected to finish at 1pm today – however Uisce Éireann say these works are proving “more complex than initially anticipated.” Now, repairs aren’t expected to finish until lunchtime on Tuesday, 30th December. Customers impacted by the outages are reminded that bulk water tankers brought in yesterday evening remain at the Dunnes Stores Car Park, Ballyvolane. Anyone taking water from these tankers are reminded to use their own containers and to boil water before consumption as a precaution.
During repair works, customers on the Northside are expected to see an increase in discolouration issues as sediment is dislodged from old cast iron pipes.
James Goulding, Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork City, said: “We understand the inconvenience this extended outage is causing and we would like to assure customers that our crews are actively working to complete these complex repairs as quickly and safely as possible.”
