M50 Junction 14 at Sandyford will undergo a series of upgrades which are set to provide traffic congestion relief in the area.

Junction 14 is a key access route in and out of Sandyford Business District. The works will address persistent traffic bottlenecks that impact commuters and businesses there, with the district being one of Dublin ’s largest employment hubs.

The improvements are expected to reduce travel times, lower transport-related expenses and ease pressure on local road networks. The upgrades are part of the Sandyford Urban Framework Plan.

Planned works include:

A new signalised junction on Blackthorn RoadUpgrades to the existing M50 Junction 14 roundabout to accommodate a new link roadEnhanced pedestrian and cyclist crossings on Leopardstown RoadDedicated active travel infrastructure to support walking and cycling

To allow for these works, a road closure will be in place on Blackthorn Road, between the junctions of Burton Hall Road and Heather Road is planned for 12 weeks starting on 19 January 2026, said Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. A diversion route will be in place.
