Gardaí have been notified after two ‘idiots’ caused more than €600 damage to the Christmas tree in the centre of Buncrana.
The incident, the third attack on the attraction in a week, was carried out at 2.37am yesterday morning. It was captured on CCTV.
Posting on social media, a spokesperson for the Buncrana Christmas Lights committee said it was the second year in a row that the man vandalised the tree.
“We had another incident where two idiots went inside the tree and caused €600 worth of damage,” they said.
Last week, the committee gave two other young men an opportunity to come forward after they were filmed climbing the tree, causing a small amount of damage.
“The reason we are not posting your face and naming and shaming is we have gathered all footage and have passed this information to the Gardai,” they added.
“So, you can both expect a visit soon, maybe even your friend who recorded you inside the tree, too. Enough is enough. Leave the stuff alone. Respect other people’s property. It’s not that difficult.”
