Scut Fagan’s pub suffered a devastating fire in the early hours of New Year’s Eve morning, no injuries have been reported at this time

Locals in Moynalvey, Co. Meath woke up to a shock this morning as gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire at Scut Fagan’s (Fagans) pub in the early hours of the morning on December 31, 2025.
The fire was brought under control by several units of fire services from a number of nearby locations and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination. Fortunately no injuries have been reported at this time.
A traditional Irish country pub, Fagans is a popular meeting spot for those looking for great company to go with their pint in a classic, cosy corner of rural Meath. It is renowned for its traditional music and recently featured in the Oscar nominated film An Cailín Ciúin
Owners of the 150-year-old pub, Beth-Ann and John Reilly take their hospitality to great lengths even going as far as to call taxis for their customers upon request at the end of a night to ensure they get home safe.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the Irish Independent: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire at a commercial property at Moynalvey, Co Meath, at around 5:15am on December 31, 2025. The fire was extinguished by the fire services. No injuries reported at this time.
“The scene has been held for a technical examination and enquiries are ongoing.”
