Two men have been arrested in connection with the garda seizure of more than €750,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis in a Cork suburb.

Gardaí said the drugs — approximately €700,000 of suspected illegal cocaine and €60,000 of cannabis — were discovered during raids conducted in the Douglas area on Tuesday, December 30. €40,000 in cash was also seized.

Two men, aged in their 30’s and 40’s were subsequently arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, at Garda stations in the Cork area.

Follow-up searches were then conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in the Dublin 14 area on New Year’s Eve resulting in the seizure of 0.5kgs of of suspected cannabis and €4,000 in cash.

The seized drugs are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

Both of the arrested men have since been charged, and are expected to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court at approximately 10.30am on Friday, January 2.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
