The Cork Echo were the first to report on the links between Denise O’Sullivan and Liverpool on Wednesday, with the 31-year-old star reportedly on the verge of a move to Merseyside.
O’Sullivan could move in the next few days, per the report, and is said to be eager to play closer to home as she enters the latter stage of her career.
Liverpool currently sit bottom of the WSL table, but the challenge of leading them out of that rut is one that O’Sullivan will relish.
The Corkonian has spent the majority of her senior career in the United States, last playing in England during a brief loan spell to Brighton in 2020.
O’Sullivan admitted last year that she was eager to play in England again before the end of her career, telling RTÉ Sport that it was something she regularly thought about.
“I think it’s always in the back of my mind,” O’Sullivan told RTÉ ahead of October’s play-off against Belgium.
I’ve been with the Courage now seven plus years. I’m the captain now, but I am happy there. I think the professionalism of the club is amazing.
I think the standards are really, really high, so I get the most of myself there, but yeah, I think going to England has always been in the back of my mind and I think it still is in the back of my mind for sure.
Last summer saw Denise O’Sullivan linked with Manchester United, who were said to be preparing a bid.
Reportedly a lifelong United fan, it now appears O’Sullivan could be set to sign for their oldest rivals.
The prospect of seeing one of Ireland’s finest players lining out closer to these shores is one that fans will surely be thrilled by.
