There are some major film and TV roles likely to be filled in 2026, including the next James Bond, Doctor Who and Voldemort. Below, we run through some of the biggies for the big and small screens, from The White Lotus Season 4, which has already begun casting, to the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Tilda Swinton is a popular online rumor to play the prized role of Lord Voldemort in HBO’s anticipated Harry Potter series. Nothing has been confirmed to that end, however. Cillian Murphy, whose name circulated as well, shut down speculation of his potential casting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Production began over the summer and much of the other key casting has been revealed. Ralph Fiennes famously portrayed the Dark Lord in the movies.

Doctor Who
The Doctor is set to return to screens for the Christmas special in late 2026 following Ncuti Gatwa’s departure and regeneration into Billie Piper at the end of the last series. Fan speculation is rampant over the identity of the next Doctor with names including Piper, Erin Doherty, Aimee Lou Wood and Matt Smith (in a comeback) among those mooted online.

Casting for one of the hottest shows around is starting to get out there. We broke news that Helena Bonham Carter was next in line for the White Lotus career boost given to the likes of Jason Isaacs, Jennifer Coolidge and Aimee Lou Wood. Soon after, Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka were the first names officially confirmed for the show. The next edition of the HBO hit takes place in France, adding intrigue as to the local stars who could be catapulted by the drama.

‘X-Men’ Film
Filmmaker Jake Schreier said recently: “I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting.” A new live-action X-Men film has been rumored to debut in 2028 so you might expect some cast to emerge next year. The prospect of new or returning actors for Jean Grey, Cyclops and Wolverine already has tongues wagging.

‘God Of War’
Amazon and Sony TV’s God of War is one of the most ambitious TV projects in the works at the moment. The series spans Greek and Norse myths, enormous monsters and epic fights. There are at least two central roles for emerging actors. Pre-production is underway on the action-adventure, which has already received a two-season order.
Scooby-Doo

Hopes are high for Scooby-Doo, the live-action series reboot for Netflix, slated to begin filming in 2026 and produced by Greg Berlanti. This will focus on the gang’s origin story and reports are it is aimed more at the teen audience than young children. Lot of strong ingredients here. The roles of Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Fred will be among the most prized next year.
‘Heat 2’

Another project whose first cast has been revealed but which has some plumb roles still to be determined. Michael Mann has attracted Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio to the next installment to his starry 1995 heist classic. The novel Heat 2 tells the story of everything that happens to the characters before and after the events of the original movie.
‘Spider-Man’ Films

Few Marvel characters have as rich a spinoff life at the moment as Spider-Man. Among projects reported to be in development are Spider-Punk, an animated adventure for the wall-crawler with Daniel Kaluuya starring and co-writing; a new animated Venom film; and an animated Spider-Woman movie. Silk is another project that has been toyed with by Sony. Have at it, web-slingers.
‘Ocean’s’ Film

As we revealed, Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper have been in negotiations to join. Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is directing and there are said to be other juicy roles to be filled. In a recent Variety interview, George Clooney said that he, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle will return as an older but wiser gang. Location scouting is underway with the aim to shoot in fall 2026.
‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ 6

Rumors of a new Pirates movie won’t go away. In June 2025, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said the sixth film would feature returning cast members and new faces. He also predicted that Johnny Depp would return to the franchise “if he likes the way the part’s written.” But would Disney countenance a Depp return? The Hollywood legend became persona non grata with the studios following his well-publicized legal dispute with Amber Heard. He’s slowly starting to return to the fold, however.
