Donegal County Council has advised road users that freezing rain is predicted from 5pm today until 11am tomorrow.

According to the Met Office, freezing rain is a rare type of liquid precipitation that strikes a cold surface, and freezes almost instantly.

Some Donegal routes could be treacherous and unable to be treated by council gritters.

“The public are advised to use extreme caution and avoid travelling during these times, if possible,” a council spokesperson said.
