Today is the 100th anniversary of Irish radio. On January 1, 1926, 2RN was launched. It was the forerunner to what became known as Radio Éireann.
The first true superstar of the airwaves was a sports broadcaster. Generations of listeners were converted to Gaelic games by the GAA’s answer to Saint Paul, Michael O’Hehir.
