St Brigid’s have been down this meandering road before, and maybe that held the key to victory over Scotstown on a day of bitter cold and red-hot goalmouth drama in Cavan.

The champions of Roscommon won by four in the end, and deservedly so given their scoreboard dominance (they led from the 27th minute to the final bell) and their streetwise tactics (they only conceded two scoreable frees and didn’t give Rory Beggan even a solitary two-point sniff).
