Gardai are advising the public not to make unnecessary journeys this morning.

Parts of the north and west were hit with snow showers with accumulations in some areas.

A Status Yellow Snow-Ice warning is in effect for Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal Cavan, Monaghan the remainder of Connacht and Louth and Met Eireann has said that other counties could receive some wintry showers.

The warning is valid until 11 this morning.

A number of schools will be closed today in the North West while in the North a significant number will remain closed due to the weather conditions.

Feehily schools will not be running today.

Locally roads in Tubbercurry are said to be dangerous with HGV vehicles finding it difficult to pass through the town.

Gardaà are asking the public to avoid all non-essential journeys in this area.

In Leitrim the roads are dangerous all over. The N16 and roads around Glenfarne are said to be very dangerous.

In Donegal there have been further falls of snow as well as freezing conditions. Once again Gardai have advised caution especially around the Donegal Gap.
