Gregory Campbell MP has issued a call to action for all elected representatives to unite in supporting Causeway Hospital, following the contents of a Freedom of Information (FOI) request he submitted to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.
The FOI response revealed that during the public consultation on recent changes to surgery services at Causeway Hospital, there was a very poor response from some public representatives.
The Trust response indicated that only three public representatives had written in responding to the consultation.
The three were Mr. Campbell and his DUP colleagues, Maurice Bradley MLA and Alan Robinson MLA.
According to the Trust no responses were made by other elected representatives.
Mr. Campbell said: “The silence from other representatives is deeply concerning given the vital role Causeway Hospital plays in the local community. I understand there are many important issues that elected representatives are dealing with, but the health of all our citizens should not get overlooked in the process.
“This is not a party-political issue. Everyone who holds elected office has a duty to stand up for the people who depend on Causeway Hospital. Our healthcare services are too important for anything less than unified action.”
Mr Campbell praised the ongoing efforts of campaign groups such as SOS Causeway and encouraged constituents and campaigners to help ensure that all local representatives unite on what will remain an important issue for the foreseeable future.
He concluded: “Only through united, cross-party engagement can we help ensure the best possible outcome for Causeway Hospital and our community.”
