A heartbreaking twist (Picture: ITV)
Our hearts are broken after the latest twist in Corriedale, which has seen an Emmerdale legend get some devastating news.
Jaws across the nation will have hit the floor earlier this evening when it was revealed that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) had been shot as serial killer John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) and vengeful brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) fought for control of a shotgun.
As if surviving a multi-car pile-up wasn’t enough of a thrill, the pair of Emmerdale bad boys and Coronation Street copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) took to the woods to hunt down fugitive John once and for all.
Things didn’t work out great for Kit, who was promptly knocked out by John, before he took to staring down his brother through the barrel of his shotgun – not for the first time that day.
However, it was Cain who took the brunt of the bullet as John scarpered into the forest, with Kit stumbling after him in a less than graceful manner.
Unwilling to let the Weatherfield detective take all the credit, Cain insisted he was fine and sprinted after them, with Robert close by.

However, it appeared that Cain was taken to hospital before he got the chance to get his hands on John.
There, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) was in a tizz as she tried to get someone to share some information about Cain’s condition.
In a turn of events so bizarre that even Moira commented on it, Cain was the voice of reason, pointing out that the staff had bigger things to worry about after the crash.
After what he’d been through, he decided that he was in need of a holiday, and suggested to Moira that they finally take their honeymoon.

However, their plans for the future were brought to an abrupt halt when a doctor delivered some devastating news.

He explained that the scans Cain had had for his injuries had uncovered a sizeable mass, which could be cancerous. He will need to undergo further tests to find out for certain.
It’s difficult news to take for the characters and fans alike, especially given how recently Moira underwent surgery for a brain tumour.
Cain and Moira’s relationship was tested significantly during that time, but will they be able to stick together as they face Cain’s diagnosis, or will he push her away as he’s been known to do?
