Coronation Street viewers were quick to notice one detail in the soap’s most recent storyline. A harrowing Corriedale episode on Monday night saw Billy Mayhew lose his life after a fatal crash. The worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale intertwined in a one-hour special broadcast, dubbed “Corriedale”.
Fans were delighted to see their favourite Weatherfield characters come face to face with their Yorkshire-based counterparts, although in heartbreaking circumstances.
The characters were caught up in the aftermath of Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding which soon turned into a tragic night as the sun set. A drunken Carl drove Debbie recklessly down the country lanes, while Kit raced into the night after Becky, with Carla in the passenger seat.
Meanwhile, Billy transported the remaining passengers back to Weatherfield. But things soon turned fatal when all of the vehicles ended up in a crash, meeting the Emmerdale residents who were also on their separate travels.
Emotional scenes saw the characters try to escape the overturned minibus. But it was too late for Billy, as the bus exploded before he was able to get out.
In the aftermath of the crash, Tuesday’s episode of the ITV soap saw the characters come to terms with Billy’s death.
But one terrifying moment during Monday’s episode saw Carl manoeuvre an unconscious Debbie into the driver’s seat, framing her for the crash. As the brother and sister discussed the accident on Tuesday, Carl began to gaslight Debbie into thinking she was driving pass the blame onto her.
While an angry Kevin shouted at his brother, accusing him of lying, Debbie assured Kevin there’s nothing to worry about as she was the one who was driving.

Taking to social media during the episode, fans were heartbroken to see Debbie influenced by his lies. One said: “Oh Debbie Carl is gaslighting you [heartbroken emoji].”
But other fans were confused, suggesting Carl wouldn’t be able to lie because seatbelt marks would show who was driving the car.
One said: “Was Carl wearing a seat belt when he crashed the car? The seat belt injury he sustained would prove that Debbie didn’t drive the car.” A second said: “Seat belt bruises will make it clear who was driving during the crash!”
A third viewer said: “They won’t just take anyone’s word for who was in the driver’s seat. Especially with a crash wouldn’t there be marks where the seat belt was?”
Another said: “So Debbie definitely has the seatbelt bruise to prove she was in the passenger seat. Why is she protecting Carl?”
Corrie fans continued to question why Debbie would choose to protect Carl if she knew what really happened. The closing scene to Tuesday’s episode saw Debbie looking at her reflection in the mirror as she touched her seatbelt injuries.
Debbie’s decision to lie added more fuel to the fire as viewers are continuing to make predictions that Debbie is more to Carl than we initially thought.
Although nothing has been confirmed on-screen, rumours among fans are convinced Debbie is Carl’s mum instead of his sister. After Tuesday’s episode, one suggested: “Carl is Debbie’s son.” A second said: “Think it’s clear Debbie is Carl’s mum.”
