A fully electric Ford Capri Premium was presented to Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy yesterday by sponsor John Manning, of Henry Ford & Son Ltd.
The car is the fifth electric vehicle that has been used to support the Lord Mayor of Cork’s duties.
On receiving the car, Mr Dennehy thanked John Manning, and Henry Ford & Sons for continuing to support the office of the Lord Mayor through the provision of the mayoral car.
The tradition has been ongoing for 80 years, in the long-running partnership between Ford and Cork City Council.
“As a local authority, we are working to promote sustainable practices throughout Cork,” the Lord Mayor said.

He added that, as the first citizen, he was delighted to continue to lead by example with a fully electric model.
Mr Manning, the market lead at Henry Ford & Son Ltd, said the brand was proud to continue its long-standing partnership with the office.
DEEP ROOTS
He said the car’s presentation reflected both Ford’s deep roots in Cork and a shared commitment to sustainability and progress.
The car has a range of 627km, with a charging speed of 28 minutes.
“As this marks the fifth consecutive year of an electric vehicle supporting the Lord Mayor’s duties, it underlines Cork City’s leadership in embracing cleaner, greener mobility, and we are delighted to play our part in supporting that journey,” he added.
William Ford, the father of Henry Ford, was born in Ballinascarthy, outside Clonakilty. Henry’s mother was Mary Ahern, from Cork city.
