UPDATE 9AM SATURDAY: Racing at Warwick has been cancelled due to a frozen track

A tough opener on the ITV Racing schedule, and I have a suspicion that there aren’t too many of these that are ahead of the handicapper. I can see why MOON PHASES heads the market, and he does look the most likely winner. He bucked out and made all on his last start, and the extra three furlongs should be in his favour. Connections have had plenty of luck at this meeting in the past, and he looks the safest option in a tricky contest.

With the lack of substantial form on offer, I’ve landed on PRECIOUS MAN for the Skelton team. I wasn’t blown away with him at Cheltenham, but he’s had a wind operation since, and that should bring about some improvement. In what seems like a weak enough contest, he looks like the safest option.

The five quick fences at Warwick will certainly provide a test for these novices, and that may suit MOON ROCKET more than the market leader, Wade Out. Wade Out’s jumping wasn’t fluent on his last start, and if he doesn’t improve markedly on that, I suspect Moon Rocket could be too far gone for him to be able to reel him in late in the day.

Just the six runners at the time of writing, so there’s not much each-way appeal, but I like YOUR DARLING at the prices. He ran really well at Ascot off the back of a long layoff. He had his chance turning in, but tired on the run in, which he was entitled to do after that long break, and if he can improve on that, he shouldn’t be too far away.

With his opposition unlikely to be at their peak, I’ll be siding with KALIF DU BERLAIS. Having watched his run at Exeter, I was of the opinion that he wanted this step back up in trip. He’s got the age advantage over his opposition and looks like he’s still on the improve, so it’s Kalif Du Berlais for me.

14:55 Warwick – Myretown

The Gold Cup-entered MYRETOWN looks the most likely winner of this tough staying handicap. He was bombing along before he fell at Newbury on his reappearance, and he looks like he could still be well ahead of the handicapper off a mark of 142. His front-running style should be well-suited to this test, and if his jumping holds up, he’ll be very hard to pass.

15:17 Kempton – Wreckless Eric (Each-Way)

There are plenty with chances in this competitive renewal of the Lanzarote, and I’ve gone for WRECKLESS ERIC at a big price for some each-way value. Stepping back up to this trip looks like a good move from connections, and some of his form from last season is really stacking up. His run at Ascot before Christmas would have left him spot on for a tilt at a big pot like this, and at the prices, he’s got a fair each-way chance.

15:32 Warwick – Doughmore Bay (Best Bet) (Each-Way)

DOUGHMORE BAY is a huge price for Emma Lavelle and Jonny Burke. He had been off the track for a long time before he returned this season at Windsor, where he ran well behind Roaring Conquest and Super Survivor. He then went to Cheltenham, where he was pulled up after making a bad mistake, and I’m putting a line through that run. He could be on an attractive mark for a yard who are having a terrific season so far.
