A man in his 40s has died after two cars collided in Kerry.

The collision took place on the N22 at around 6.40pm on Saturday evening.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision near Dromadesesirt to come forward.

One of the drivers, a male aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency services. 

His body has been removed to the local mortuary where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

The other driver, a male aged in his 30s, was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is currently closed for examination by garda forensics, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

A spokesperson said: “Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N22 near Dromadeesirt between 6:20pm and 6:50pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
