HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center demolished two historic test stands on Saturday morning.
The Propulsion and Structural Test Facility and the Dynamic Test Facility were removed with coordinated implosions.
Officials said the demolitions are part of a larger project that began in 2022 and targeted several inactive structures.

The Propulsion and Structural Test Facility, better known as T-tower due to its unique shape, was built in 1957. According to NASA, it was used to test components of the Saturn launch vehicles, the Army’s Redstone Rocket, and rocket boosters used on the space shuttle. It was last used for space shuttle solid rocket motor tests in the 1990s.

The Dynamic Test Stand was built in 1964 and was initially used to test fully assembled Saturn V rockets. It was last used in the early 2000s for microgravity testing, according to NASA.
Saturday’s demolitions created loud booms heard throughout the Huntsville area.
