Aldi has impressed shoppers by launching a new item that could help people ‘burn more calories’ without needing to go to the gym. The supermarket is stocking a £12.99 Weighted Vest that ‘increases the effectiveness of strength and endurance training,’ according to the product description.

Weighing approximately 6kg, Aldi says: “You’ll definitely be sticking to your New Year’s resolution of getting stronger with this Weighted Vest!” The product description adds that the vest features reflective strips, and it is offered in a universal size with adjustable straps.

Weighted vests are often popular among fitness enthusiasts, as they can help people burn more calories while performing everyday activities such as cleaning or going for a walk. Verywell Health explains: “Walking with a weighted vest burns more calories by making your muscles work harder.

“Wearing a weighted vest while walking helps improve balance and build bone density. A weighted vest increases the intensity of your cardio workout, boosting heart health.”

As such, people could use the item to level up their gym workouts; however, it could also help people lose weight without needing to go to the gym at all. The NHS recommends adults aged 19 to 64 should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week, and do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups on at least two days a week.

The NHS says muscle-strengthening activities include yoga, pilates, tai chi, lifting weights, working with resistance bands, and doing exercises that use your own body weight. More information is available on the NHS website.

According to shoppers, Aldi’s weighted vest is a ‘great find’. The item impressed customers when it was showcased on TikTok by Devon Murphy, posting under the handle @Devonmurphyx.

Highlighting the vest, she wrote: “Fitness girls. Run to Aldis. Only £12.99 for a weighted vest.” Replying to Devon’s video, one viewer said: “Oooh great find.” A fan agreed: “Wow great find.” Someone else shared: “Going tomorrow!” and in a comment, Devon said: “6kg quite heavy, definitely get a sweat on with it.”

The Inflatable Boxing Machine is priced at £29.99. The product description states: “Start your new Boxing hobby, and get some extra practice in at home! Ideal for training, working out or learning safely at home. After inflation, this allows safe punching sequences. Good cushioning.”
