Dunnes Stores has alerted customers to a safety concern involving a popular snack that could pose risks to certain individuals.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland ( FSAI ) issued an Allergen Alert on Friday concerning specific batches of the retailer’s Moroccan Style Topped Houmous.

The food safety watchdog has flagged that the product contains undeclared allergens, presenting a potential health hazard to some shoppers.

The FSAI highlighted that milk may be present in the product, yet this hasn’t been included in the ingredients list.

A spokesperson explained: “Specific batches of Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous contains milk and egg which is not declared on the ingredients list on the affected batches.”, reports the Irish Mirror.

“This may make the implicated batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant to milk or egg.

“Therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batches.”

The product in question is Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous with a best before date of ’30/01/26′.

Shoppers with a milk allergy or intolerance are being urged not to consume the item and should return it to any Dunnes Stores location for a full refund.

An allergic reaction to milk can trigger symptoms such as hives, stomach upset, vomiting and alterations in bowel movements.

The product in question is Dunnes Stores Moroccan Style Topped Houmous with a best before date of ’30/01/26′. This follows an urgent product recall for a widely-sold €27 alcoholic beverage available at Dunnes Stores over concerns it may contain glass fragments.

Last month, the FSAI issued a “do not drink” warning for certain batches of Disaronno Originale 500 Years in limited edition bottles.

The recall was prompted after worries emerged that tiny glass fragments might be present within the bottles.

Disaronno, promoted as ‘The World’s Favourite Italian Liqueur’, is a household staple in numerous Irish homes, particularly throughout the festive period.

The product is readily stocked in Irish supermarkets and off licences nationwide, including Tesco where it retails for €27, and Dunnes Stores where it’s currently available for €25.

A Dunnes Stores spokesperson urged customers not to drink the product and to bring it back to any branch for a complete refund without requiring a receipt.

They said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required.”
