Irish actress Erin Doherty claimed her debut Golden Globe Award on Sunday evening for her supporting performance in the series Adolescence, delivering an expletive-filled acceptance.
The 32-year-old performer beat out a competitive field, securing the trophy for Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television during the 83rd annual ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“I made a promise to my mom I wouldn’t swear, but what the f—? Holy s—! Sorry, mom,” Doherty said from the stage, though CBS‘s broadcast delay system managed to obscure most of the x-rated language.
It comes after Nikki Glaser was slammed by A-listers and viewers for an awful Golden Globes skit.

Following her profane opening, the actress pivoted to a heartfelt tribute connected to her character work. “I didn’t want to assume, but I feel like we all know therapists,” she said. “Life can be tough. Mental health is everything. Thank you to therapists, and it was an honor to play one.”
Doherty portrays Briony Ariston in the series. She previously secured the 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and added a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television to her trophy collection.
Doherty triumphed over nominees including Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, and Parker Posey from The White Lotus, along with Catherine O’Hara of The Studio and Hannah Einbinder from Hacks.

Adolescence emerged as the evening’s most decorated television series, having received five Globe nominations.
Beyond the three acting victories, the series competed for best television limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television, and Ashley Walters received a supporting actor nomination.
The show’s awards momentum began at the Emmys, where it captured best limited series alongside acting prizes for Doherty, Graham, and Cooper.
Doherty’s career extends beyond her current role.
She holds two SAG Awards as part of the ensemble cast of The Crown from 2020 and 2021.
She faces another potential honor at the 2026 SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards, where she’s nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or limited series.
Comedian Nikki Glaser served as host for the evening’s festivities, which aired live on CBS.
Dick Clark Productions produced the show, with Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner serving as executive producers.
