On St Patrick’s Day 2024, while families across the country celebrated, gardaí made a grim discovery, the body of a young woman in a canal just outside Monaghan town. She was 23-year-old Kelly Marie Lynch.
Kelly’s death was first rumoured as a suicide, then later described as a tragic accident.
But from the very beginning, her family were adamant Kelly did not take her own life, and she did not fall into that canal.
Now, new and disturbing doubts are being raised.
A former PSNI detective who investigated a number of prominent murders including the 2020 killing of Katie Simpson by Jonathan Creswell, says the circumstances surrounding Kelly’s death demand fresh scrutiny.
On this episode of the Indo Daily, Fionnán Sheahan is joined by Catherine Fegan, Irish Independent special correspondent and James Brannigan founder of the Katie Trust and former PSNI Detective Sergeant, to ask why he believes Kelly Lynch’s case should be upgraded to a murder investigation.
