A report conducted by the Railway Accident Investigation Unit (RAIU) found that a railway worker was just seconds away from being hit by a train in Co Carlow while undertaking work on the railway line.
In total, the report found that from February 27, 2023 to November 24, 2025, there have been eight reported near misses between trains and Iarnród Éireann staff carrying out activities such as track patrolling, infrastructure inspections and fault rectification.
