A popular Wicklow bakery is having a Dublin “homecoming” with two new locations set to open in the capital in 2026.
Scéal Bakery are set to open up at Wilton Park in the city centre and on the South Circular Road this year. Scéal will be moving into the Little Bird Cafe in Portobello – Little Bird will be keeping their yoga studio in the same location open – and they called their return to Dublin 8 “less like an opening and more like a homecoming”.
They said: “Before Scéal had a home, before Greystones, before we knew whether this dream could really work, Dublin 8 gave us our start. The pop-ups, the early mornings, the long days, the conversations across counters. You showed up.
“You bought bread. You encouraged us. You helped give us the confidence and the means to take the next step. We’ve never forgotten that.
“Scéal means “story” in Irish, and this place is a big part of ours. Dublin 8 believed in what we were trying to do at a moment when belief mattered most. That support didn’t just help us survive. It helped shape who we are and how we work.
“So returning here in early 2026 feels less like an opening and more like a homecoming. Our promise remains the same as it was back then. To bake with care and intention. To work closely with Irish producers. To respect craft, time and quality. And to be part of the everyday life of the place we’re in, not just passing through it.
“We’re grateful for where Scéal has gone, but we’re just as grateful for where it began. We can’t wait to return, reconnect and start the next chapter together.”
The news comes just a month after Scéal announced they would be opening their second location at Wilton Park. They said: “We are delighted to announce Scéals return to Dublin with a new bakery and cafe opening at Wilton Park.
“Natural light, calm and a connection to nature are central to how we choose our bakery spaces. They support the wellbeing of the team and shape the kind of experience the bakery creates for customers. At Wilton Park, the bakery opens directly onto the park’s restored Victorian fountain, offering a rare and peaceful setting to enjoy freshly baked bread, pastries and coffee.
“The opening marks an exciting new chapter for Scéal, planting new roots in a growing part of the city. We look forward to connecting with the local community and welcoming them into our second bakery location next summer.”
