Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a serious collision involving a pedestrian in Letterkenny today.

A man in his 80s was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital after being struck by a car on Lower Main Street at approximately 1pm.

Gardaí have this evening confirmed that the man’s injuries are described as serious.

Lower Main Street remains closed to traffic tonight while the scene has been preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 12:15pm and 1:15pm on Thursday 15th January 2026 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
