Claude

Anthropic is bringing Claude for healthcare to allow healthcare providers, payers, and consumers to use the platform for medical purposes, following a similar move by OpenAI for ChatGPT.

In a blog post, Anthropic explained that Claude is expanding into Healthcare, and it’s testing new connectors specifically tailored for healthcare needs.

With AI, healthcare can improve its billing and work faster.  But there are also other ways in which Claude can help.

For example, Claude can now connect to the CMS Coverage Database and check Medicare coverage rules that depend on where you are, support prior authorization, etc.

CMS integration can help healthcare with its revenue cycle and compliance.

“For payers and providers, we’ve added several connectors that make healthcare information easier to find, access, and understand,” Anthropic announced yesterday.

“These allow Claude to pull information from industry-standard systems and databases, meaning that clinicians and administrators can save significant time finding the data and generating the reports they need.”

For example, a demo shows that a utilization management specialist reviews a Medicare prior authorization request for a patient who needs a robotic-assisted lung biopsy. Normally, this would have taken hours without AI, as the process requires manual cross-check.

Thanks to Claude integration, the process has been automated with human oversight.

Claude validates the provider and billing details by checking the NPI registry and confirming ICD-10 diagnosis codes, then looks up Medicare coverage guidance in the CMS coverage database.

At every step, Claude asks the healthcare specialist for approval to ensure that the process is carried out without errors.

Moreover, Claude can look up ICD-10 codes, which means it can now correct medical coding, reduce billing mistakes, and improve claims processing.

Last but not least, when Claude is deployed across healthcare, it can verify providers, support credentialing, and reduce claim errors.
