Roy Keane has not offered up too many managerial endorsements amid his headline-grabbing TV appearances down the years, so his nomination of Eddie Howe to be the next Manchester United boss was something of a left-field intervention.
Keane’s post-football career has been built around his persona as the Mr Nasty of punditry, with his rare moments of praise tending to be bestowed on the true greats of the game.
