Leeds United have had an exceptional few months in the Premier League to really drag themselves away from immediate relegation woes – and that could see them complete a move for Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen before the window shuts, according to reports.
Leeds began the season in poor form, only mustering 11 points from their first 13 games in the Premier League as they fell into a relegation scrap after promotion from the Championship last season.
However, a run of just one defeat in their last nine games – a last-gasp loss to Newcastle United – has seen Leeds fly up the Premier League table, eight points clear of safety and just six points away from the top half. It means they can afford to open the chequebook, and as a result, Schmid has been targeted to come in.
Romano: Leeds ‘In Talks’ to Land Schmid From Werder Bremen

The report by Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter) states that the Whites are in talks to sign Schmid from the Bundesliga outfit, with negotiations ongoing between the two clubs.
Talks over a fee of around £13million, plus add-ons, are underway, with Leeds keen on bringing the Austrian midfielder to Elland Road – and his form for the German outfit has tempted Daniel Farke to shop for the 25-year-old star to boost his creativity in west Yorkshire.
Owing to his country of birth, Schmid has been dubbed the ‘Alpine Lionel Messi’ by Sky Sports Germany in the past, which is a good marker for fans to go off of if Schmid does make the move to join Farke in the Premier League.
Schmid joined Werder Bremen in 2019 after solid form at RB Salzburg’s feeder club, FC Liefering, and despite a couple of seasons to hone his craft in his home country, Romano’s extensive performances for Bremen have seen them establish themselves as a dependable Bundesliga outfit.
Leeds May Want to Double Down on Brenden Aaronson Form

One of Leeds fans’ wishes over the summer would have been getting rid of Brenden Aaronson despite his nine-goal tally in the Championship last season, as a result of his poor stint in the Premier League three years ago.
However, the American international has burst into life in Yorkshire, scoring four goals in 20 games in the top-flight to really help Leeds find their rhythm.
He came from the Austrian Bundesliga, and having spent time in Germany, his career path is slightly similar to Schmid’s.
Daniel Farke will be hoping that is the key formula for his side and with more creativity, goals will surely flow at Elland Road if he does join.
