The Last Thing He Told Me, the star-studded thriller featuring Jennifer Garner and Angourie Rice, has unveiled a trailer for its second season. After a wait of almost three years, could the follow-up be a triumphant return?
The Apple TV series, which is based on Laura Dave’s 2021 novel of the same name, sees Garner portray Hannah Hall in the wake of the disappearance of her husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).
After he goes missing amid an embezzlement investigation, Hannah gradually bonds with stepdaughter Bailey (Rice) as they search for clues, only to discover some sinister truths along the way.
The second season, which is based on Dave’s 2025 sequel novel The First Time I Saw Him, sees Owen show up after five years on the run. It’s not all smooth sailing, however, with Hannah and Bailey trying to reunite their family while their past hones in on them.
Ahead of its release next month, Apple TV has released the first trailer for the follow-up season, with the action-packed scenes showing the group go on the run as Hannah doubts if she’ll ever be able to fully trust Owen.

In addition to the aforementioned trio of stars, David Morse and Augusto Aguilera will also return from the first season, while new faces in the line-up include Judy Greer, Rita Wilson, Josh Hamilton, Nick Hargrove, Luke Kirby and Elizabeth O’Donnell.
The new season, which consists of eight episodes, will kick off on Apple TV on 20 February, with the remaining seven instalments being released on Fridays until the scheduled conclusion on 10 April.
While the first season received mixed reviews from critics, its reputation among viewers was a tad better, with IMDb currently reporting a solid average user rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 20,000 ratings.

“This is a slow building drama, if you can hang in until the end, you’ll be rewarded. [It has] a great story, a great cast and some compelling performances,” wrote one user, who praised Garner’s “signature performance”.
“I’m sure Jennifer Garner is why most of us tuned into this series. She’s always a joy to watch,” noted a second viewer, though they did take issue with the slow pacing and excessive episode count.
Meanwhile, Common Sense Media said of season 1 in their review: “There are moments in the story that feel more far-fetched than they need to be to keep the narrative moving, but The Last Thing He Told Me is still easy to get caught up in.”
TV Fanatic added: “The Last Thing He Told Me isn’t perfect, but it’s created with a lot of heart and offers a satisfying ending.”
The Last Thing He Told Me returns on Apple TV on 20 February.
