He will end his tenure on the 27-year show in late March.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A long-time Greensboro radio host is retiring. Chris Demm of the 2 Guys Named Chris Show on Rock 92 announced today that this will be his last year and, in fact, his last couple of months on the show.

“I will not be there on April 1st, you know, that’s kind of how Chris Kelly and I sort of made a splash 27 years ago, on April Fools’ Day of 1999. So, there’s a nice sort of symmetry, closing the circle, if you will, on that day. Got it, but it’s not a joke,” said Chris Demm.

Over the last 27 years, there have been plenty of jokes, Chris Demm with the dry and snarky wit playing alongside Chris Kelly’s humor.  The two have literally been having conversations for 27 years, the bulk of them on air, so we could all join in.

“I won’t miss the meetings, I won’t miss catching up on emails all the time, the four hours on the air with Chris Kelly, with Biggie, with the various people we’ve had with us over the years. They were the best 4 hours of the day. I will miss, you know, having an outlet for anything that pops into your head. It’s unbelievably gratifying, and to have people respond to it is, it makes it even better,” said Demm.

Caller after caller this morning gave their congrats and their many ways they will miss the man known as Demm. And when it came to hearing what Kelly and Biggie had to say about Demm, it brought the tears.

“I’ve known about this decision for a while, and, you know, rationally, it makes sense,  but when you add emotion into it, and you’re saying goodbye to people who were such a part of your life every single day, 27 years, Chris Kelly and I worked side by side before sunrise. It was unbelievably moving to hear their thoughts and not prepared for it,” said Demm.

No doubt, there will be more lamenting of his leaving before he actually leaves at the end of March. In many jobs, you don’t get to choose when your last day is, but Demm has that gift. So, you might be asking, why now?

“If you’re a Beatles fan, which I am, you may have remembered that a very young Paul McCartney wrote a song about, um, very old age called When I’m 64. Guess who’s 64? The timing just seemed to work out right for my wife and me, you know, it, the decision was not an easy one. We talked about it a lot. There have been a lot of internal discussions at the radio station.  I’m at peace with the decision, honestly, but I am,” said Demm.Â
