Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Roy Cropper receives a terrible shock next week, when he learns that his new love interest Alice is married. And the news is delivered by the worst person possible – her angry husband Mal.

For some time now, Roy has been writing letters to Alice, a lady that he connected with after participating in a pen pal scheme. While the pair haven’t met in person yet, Roy is clearly smitten, as he tells Mary Taylor that he’s sent Alice a bouquet of flowers to make up for a recent mishap of his.

However, later in the week, the café owner is baffled to receive a visit from a fella calling himself Alice’s husband. Has Roy unwittingly played a role in breaking up a marriage?

“Poor Roy is stunned when Mal arrives at the café,” shares our cobbles source. “Mal wastes no time at all announcing that he’s Alice’s hubby.

“As you can imagine, Roy tries to explain himself, but it’s yet to be seen whether Mal offers him forgiveness or not. Luckily, Nina is around, so hopefully she can help if it all goes pear-shaped!”

The next day, Nina informs Roy that the electricity has shut off in the flat. True to character, Roy assures Nina that he’s already called an electrician for help. But both Nina and Roy are knocked for six when the tradesman turns out to be Mal!

“How awful for Roy,” our insider adds. “Out of all of the electricians in Greater Manchester, it just has to be Mal, doesn’t it? You couldn’t make it up!”

With Mal in the flat, can he and Roy put their past behind them? Or should Roy stay vigilant around his love rival?

Corrie fans have been speculating about Alice’s identity for some time. Roy’s loved ones have encouraged him to keep connecting with Alice, but he’s always struck a note of caution.

Many fans have expected some kind of sting in the tail, so it seems their worst fears have been realised with this latest twist…
