There was no glitz or glamour to be found in John B Keane’s pub in Listowel over the weekend. Instead, it was a relaxed affair where friends and regulars gathered together over a few pints to chat about the good old days and raise a toast to the bar hitting a milestone 70 years in existence.

The bar was, of course, famously opened and run by the late, great John B Keane, along with his wife Mary. Following their passing, it’s now in the very capable hands of the couple’s son, Billy, and it’s he who spoke to The Kerryman this week about the pub turning 70 and his own personal memories of growing up there.
