British drama The Last Bus starring Timothy Spall has landed a new UK streaming home. Also featuring Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan, the film sees a widower try and fulfil a promise to his late wife by scattering her ashes at a special place.
As such, Spall’s character Tim journeys across the length of Britain using his free bus pass, from Scotland’s John o’ Groats to Cornwall’s Land’s End.
The Last Bus was added to Prime Video yesterday, and is streaming for free for subscribers to the service. The movie is also still available to stream on BBC iPlayer after being added last summer.
Described as “wonderful” by one fan on IMDb, the viewer added of the 2021 film: “Any movie that brings tears to my eyes is worth watching. It’s a simple and harmless film with a wonderful soul at its heart.”
Another called the film a “tear jerker”, writing: “Ok, its far from realistic, but if you want realism, watch a documentary. Otherwise put your feet up with a nice glass of vino and let this movie tug at your heartstrings.”

“The film is really beautiful, and portrays a plethora of deep emotions effectively,” a third shared, while a fourth said: “This is a gem of a movie with excellent acting and very good directing. It’s heart warming and who cannot use more of that these days?”
However, critical reception was more divided, Common Sense Media writing that it “is incredibly difficult not to be moved by it”, though suggested that “some of the drama feels contrived”.

“For a tender movie that follows an old man on a long and demanding multi-bus excursion to honor his late wife’s wishes, the placid affair has curiously little emotional range, and an even narrower sense of stakes,” added Variety.
However, Film Threat called it “a touching film that will remind all of us to embrace the ones we love as often as we can”.
The Last Bus is available to stream on Prime Video and BBC iPlayer.
