Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been close friends for over 17 years, and Selena’s recent Instagram Story subtly showed that bond with a framed photo of the two in the background.
The framed pic appears to be from the same photoshoot as a Tumblr-era throwback Taylor once shared for Selena’s 24th birthday.
The friendship dates back to 2008, when they first met while Selena was dating Nick Jonas and Taylor was dating Joe Jonas.
Fave celeb besties? It’s hard to say…but Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are definitely up there. After more than 17 years of friendship (!!), the two are still as tight as ever, and that was made clear from Selena’s latest Instagram Story, which—if you look at it carefully—you’ll see includes a framed photo of her and Taylor in the background.
Which photo did she choose to frame, you ask? It’s unclear when exactly the photo was taken, but it definitely seems to have been taken the same day as this glorious Tumblr-era throwback, which Taylor shared on Instagram in a since-deleted post for Selena’s 24th birthday:

As a reminder: Taylor and Selena first bonded back in 2008 when they were dating Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas, respectively. “We clicked instantly and, man, that was my girl,” Selena later told WSJ Magazine of their meeting, while Tay added, “There has always been this quality of sisterhood, and I don’t say that in a basic way. I knew from when I met her I would always have her back. In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.”
Most recently, Taylor stood by Selena’s side while she married Benny, and she even gave a speech at the reception.
During a September 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tay spilled all the deets on her speech. “I did do some light teasing about the way we used to dress in the year 2008—the year that we met…Selena—her favorite outfit back then was a very long tank top, skinny jeans, but a tiny little vest. The smallest vest, and Chucks, and that was her uniform that year. Mine was I always looked like I was late for the cowboy-themed junior prom.”
