Body Tech Fitness had its grand opening next to Vue Cinemas at Peel Leisure and Retail Park last March.

In its first year in operation, it is one of 10 gyms nominated in the Lancashire Telegraph’s ‘Best Gyms’ competition.

The gym is run by Hollywood stuntman Ben Jenkin alongside Liverpool-based Nicholas Whitcombe.

Ben, who attended Witton Park High School, has appeared in a number of blockbuster films, from Spiderman to The Fall Guy, where he was A-lister Ryan Gosling’s body double.

The gym said: “We may be new, but our standards are high. From day one, our focus has been on creating a top tier independent gym for the people of Blackburn.

“It was a testament to the standard we have brought to the town in witnessing the three main gyms in the area announce multimillion pound refurbishments within a month of our opening.

“We’re proud to have played our part in raising the standard for the fitness scene across the whole of Blackburn and look forward to the continued progress for not just ourselves, but for the towns gyms as a whole.

“This is a gym built by the people, for the people.”

The 24,000 sq ft area was completely renovated and includes some of the latest fitness equipment, plus all the classic weights and machines you would expect to find in a gym.

Membership costs £45 a month, and numbers are capped to maintain a positive experience for members, said gym owners.

The company also has locations in Ellesmere Port, Winsford and Wrexham with Deeside opening soon.

The location has been used as a fitness centre since it opened, but has been empty for seven years since DW Fitness announced its closure at the site off Lower Audley Street in 2017, after 13 years.

The retail park is accessible on foot from Blackburn bus and train stations, as well as having plenty of car parking.

Over the coming week, readers will be able to vote for their favourite gyms by picking up a paper copy of the Lancashire Telegraph.

We will feature each of the finalists until voting closes on Sunday, January 31, with readers needing to pick up a paper copy of the Lancashire Telegraph and complete the voting slip.
