Things are don’t seem to be right with Roy’s pen pal

Coronation Street fans think they have ‘rumbled’ Roy Cropper’s catfish, but it appears spoilers have already revealed his pen pal’s ‘true identity’.
Towards the end of last year, viewers of the ITV soap have seen Roy’s niece, Nina Lucas, becoming concerned for her uncle after spotting him being focused on the post and squirrelling away letters he didn’t want her to see.
Having clocked that he was anxiously awaiting a delivery, Roy revealed to Nina that he was hoping that something would arrive from his new pen pal. Of course, she was intrigued to find out who he was writing to, and Roy revealed how he had signed up to an organisation that arranges pen pals for lonely prisoners.
Nina’s concerns for Roy continued, and as she shared them with Shona Platt, she suggested that they just check his post for themselves. Nina was totally against the idea, but Shona found the letters anyway. As they flicked through them, the two women noticed a pink, handwritten envelope that appeared to have come from a woman called Alice.
But as they looked at the piece of mail, Roy walked into the cafe and caught them red-handed. As they apologised and explained why they had gone searching through his mail, Roy explained what had kept him so distracted. After writing to prisoners, Roy revealed that he had also received a letter from one of the prisoners’ mums, Alice, who wanted to thank him for writing to her son.
He said that they had continued writing to each other, but that he had been thrown by the latest letter, as it seemed to have romantic undertones. So, Nina and Shona agreed to help him come up with the right response.
Roy and Alice have since been exchanging text messages, but Nina isn’t convinced that all is as it seems, and that he’s been ‘catfished’, a term she had to explain to her uncle. DC Kit Green also ended up involved in the conversation, warning Roy to be careful.
Later on, Nina was clearly still worried and asked Roy: “She’s not mentioned money, has she?” He replied: “She did relate a rather amusing tale about finding some Latvian currency in a cigar box after her husband passed.” But Roy said it was only amusing because, Alice and her husband had never been to Latvia.

But after their conversation, the scene cut to show the screen of a smartphone showing Roy’s text message, which was presented as if it were a formal letter, and a reply. But it seemingly revealed that the person holding the phone was a man with a beard, although his face was never fully revealed.
@NatCaves commented: “Who is Roy actually messaging? Cause it definitely ain’t no Alice!!! Who’s this man. Poor Roy. He doesn’t deserve this catfish! #corrie.” @Bridie_Ogrady said: “Was that Kevin texting Roy #Corrie.” @RyanSoapKing25 echoed: “OMG is Kevin catfishing Roy? #Corrie.” However, @HollieLou_xo added: “I wonder if ‘Alice’ who’s writing/texting Roy is Hayley’s son Christian??#corrie #coronationstreet.”
But spoilers for next week’s Corrie has already revealed that Roy will be given a shock when a man in his fifties stops by at the café, and introduces himself as Mal – Alice’s husband. Is that who he has been talking to this whole time?
