Manchester United have secured a shock victory at the Emirates on Sunday evening, with interim head coach Michael Carrick leading the club to a deserved 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

Arsenal started the better of the two sides in this game, although they did not really threaten the opposition goal. However, they would take the lead due to a fortunate deflection of Lisandro Martinez in the 29th minute.

While you would have expected Mikel Arteta’s side to take control of the contest after that point, that did not prove to be the case.

Bryan Mbuemo would equalise after a disastrous error from Martin Zubimendi, finishing well past David Raya.

The two sides were level at the interval, although the visitors would take the lead soon after the second half got underway.

It came in impressive fashion, with Patrick Dorgu scoring a magnificent long range effort.

Arsenal would dominate possession after the point, but continued to struggle to create much in the way of clear goalscoring opportunities.

They were then gifted an equaliser thanks to a shocking piece of goalkeeping from Senne Lammens.

However, there was more drama still to come.

Matheus Cunha would pop up a few moments later to score a stunning winner as Michael Carrick claimed a second big win since taking over as interim boss.

Roy Keane Delivers Withering Take On Arsenal’s Mental Weakness

While this was a magnificent result for Manchester United, it was an incredibly poor one for Arsenal. Arteta’s side had the opportunity to cement their place at the top of the division, although the gap between themselves and Manchester City has now been reduced to just four points.

This is the latest instalment in what has been a shaky run of form from Arsenal in the league, with questions being asked about their mentality ahead of a push for a first title since 2004 over the coming months.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Roy Keane suggested that their recent struggles are a familiar sight after they have faltered in promising positions on a number of occasions in recent seasons.

Do you know what that’s called? Pressure.

The pressure is on Arsenal today. They’ve seen the results and are in a great position. They’ve got everything going for them and are doing really well in all the competitions.

That’s pressure. They’re feeling the pressure. It’s how they deal with it over the next month or two.

That’s what has cost them over the last couple of years when they’ve got themselves in good positions. The signs now over the last few weeks going back to the Liverpool game, the Forest game, and today losing that momentum (is that it’s happening again).

If they look at it you have to have step back, reset and say ‘we’re still in a great position’. They have to find a way to get that momentum back and a bit of confidence.

I can’t believe they don’t have that confidence as a team with where they are in the league and what they’re doing in the other competitions. You’d be in the dressing room going ‘what’s up with everybody?’

Play the game, they’re obviously playing the occasion…

They’ve got to back to basics and start embracing this challenge rather than being frightened by it.

Arsenal will have a dead rubber Champions League game against Kairat to play in midweek, before a potentially tricky trip to take on Leeds United in the league next weekend.

It will be interesting to see how they respond to this result, with Manchester City perhaps smelling some blood in the water despite their own recent run of poor form.
